In the year 2000 OMC Outboard Marine Corporation went into receivership and Shane’s racing career was over.

Due to work and family commitments this was not such a bad thing. But in 2002 Shane had itchy feet. Shane was taking an interested in Formula 1 racing for the first time. Shane and Cherie had been involved with racing for some years now and this seemed like an option. They looked at a boat which was for sale on a Sunday and by the following Sunday it was parked in their front yard. From there Shane started competing in the practise days of the Australian Formula 1 Super boat Series.
2003 he went on to compete in the F1 class with much success being titled AUSTRALIAN CHAMPION in his debut year.

2004 bought some lucky changes to Shane Vella Racing winning some and losing some. Shane Vella racing finished 3rd for the year.
2005 had more ups and downs for the team with a new boat from the US, destroying itself on its first race weekend but keeping our heads above water for much of the season with Shane back on the podium receiving 3rd place for the year.
